Arabic Reading Practice with a Fun Twist

Lately, my child’s favorite game has been Hide and Seek.

There’s something so nostalgic about it. It brings back memories of the endless amount of fun I had as a little girl playing with my siblings. I can still picture myself hiding quietly in a dark closet, heart pounding with excitement as I anticipated the seeker’s footsteps as they came into the room.

I remember being the seeker, counting loudly to ten while straining to catch any faint background noise that might reveal where everyone was hiding.

It’s no wonder my child loves this game so much.

One day, during our Arabic reading lesson, she asked if we could play Hide and Seek instead.

And that’s what gave me the idea for this game! Why not combine the two together?
And just like that, this game has been on a weekly rotation in our lessons!

How to Play the Hide and Seek Arabic Reading Game

This simple game doesn’t require many materials and is super easy to set up. Here’s how you can play it with your child to practice Arabic reading.

Materials Needed:

How to Play:

  1. Hide the flashcards around the room. Choose hiding spots that are a little challenging but not too difficult.
  2. Let your child know how many cards are hidden so they can track their progress (and so you don’t forget how many are hidden!)
  3. Every time your child finds a word, they read it before they look for the next one.

More Fun Ways to Play Arabic Reading Games

  • Add a Timer: Turn it into a race against the clock! Your child must find and read all the cards before time runs out!
  • Team Play: If you have multiple kids, they can race to see who finds (and reads!) more cards. Or, let them take turns hiding and finding the cards for each other.
  • Change Rooms: Switch up the rooms you play in to keep the game exciting with new hiding spots.
  • Play with Other Subjects: This game can be used with any subject – colors, shapes, or numbers! I also use it as a way to review my child’s Quran!
